After almost two years of the COVID-19 pandemic and the internet becoming an unescapable part of our lives, many people have turned to the internet to find and create job opportunities. To make the most out of this crucial period, we must pay close attention to how we go about finding jobs and how we conduct ourselves online, keeping in mind that while the internet has given us greater access than ever to the world around us, it also gives the world great access to us, and often we do not know how to optimize all these possibilities.

6 TIPS FOR FINDING A JOB

Revise and edit your curriculum vitae and cover letters 

Your CV and cover letters are crucial to your chances of success in the job market. Make sure you are keeping them updated constantly with whatever new skills (languages, software’s), experience (volunteer work, projects, gigs) and certification. Make sure you stay constantly relevant in a highly competitive job market. Keep in mind, you get extra points for looking ‘tech-savvy’- mastering programs like Excel, for example, is key for anyone, especially in finance, to succeed. It also comes with a personal side benefit of making your job much easier.

Improve your LinkedIn 

LinkedIn has been, and continues to be, at the forefront of social media to professional online networking, so it is probably a good idea to get a foot in the door of the community.   • In your feed, highlight your interests through retweets and reactions.

Spend two minutes on Google, and you will find an abundance of websites that advertise job opportunities for you. There are several sites that, in a quick and easy way, allow you to send CVs to several employers in various professional areas. Simply search your location, as well as your desired job, send in your CV and motivation letter, and you will be receiving answers back within weeks. Another good way to job search is by signing up on IEFP - Institute of Employment and Professional Training. This public service offers both job offers and professional training and certification for those who need extra bullet points on their CV. 

Create a daily routine for job searching 

Job searching can be exhausting. It is, however, essential to keep track of all your opportunities. The best way to handle both these issues is to make sure you are giving yourself a set time every day to look through job offers online, check your networks, and consider finding something to add to your CV. By checking daily, you make sure to not miss out on anything, while also avoiding burnout from the flood of information and job offers. Remember - you do not have to settle for the first job opportunity you find that applies to you. With patience, you will eventually find the best possible job that you are qualified for. Consistency is key.
